  • The ADD Horror Fan, Life on the…Look, a String!

Dude, ain’t done one o dese in a while. What the hell, I’ll do another one, maybe do some more. Speaking of some more, watched PA 3…well, read review for thoughts. Anyone else getting really tired of sequels and prequels? And remakes, fugedaboutit! I still haven’t seen The Thing remake. Heard it’s decent, but I’ll wait for the dvd.
My parents had no power last week, so we watched a Tales From the Crypt dvd I brought over; I think it was season 4. Before that, I read a story I wrote for this Halloween called The Crunch of Dead Leaves. Yet another story that takes place near Whispering Pines. I’ve practically jumped the shark on them, and I haven’t even written the themed short story collection I’m planning yet! Oy Gavalt!
Meshugana sounds kind of like Meshuggah, that band I don’t listen to. But I do like this radio Disney version of they song I’d never heard before.

I got really bummed out the other day, cuz I figured out the site stat thing counted when I was looking at my site. So, I thought I had more readers than I actually do. But, to the ten of you that read this site, thank you. I’ll be sure to awkwardly not say hi to you, and just stare at you, when I see you in public.
I’m drinking tea. T is the first letter of Texas. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original, was one of the best independent films ever made. Tobe Hooper, why you no make good films any more?
I’m reading Peaceable Kingdom by Jack Ketchum. What prompted it, was the analysis of the story Gone by Nicole…somethingerother…just follow the fucking link.
    Gone, bastiches
Bastiches is a great word. Got it from Lobo comics, not to be confused with Los Lobos, the shitty band.
Speaking of bands, Gwar’s lead guitarist died, which is a bummer. I wonder if it was drugs?
Same thing I wonder about Gary Busey. You think that’s just how he is, or do you think there were a lot of drugs at some point?

I want that man’s life. He makes a living on being a weirdo. How come I don’t get paid to be a professional weirdo? C’est la vie. I always have to google how to spell that. French girls are hot. So is my tea, I’m drinking it. I’m loving it, but it’s not from Mcdonalds. The Mcdonalds near my apartment has road work near it, and I was going to hit it up, but ya know, the road work. So, I went to Wendy’s. I go to get fast food after job interviews, especially shitty ones, which was the one yesterday. I’m going to be stuck at my crappy job forever, probably. Hey, at least I have a blog no one reads to vent on.
I always love that scene in Die Hard, when McClane is in the vent. Or air duct. Whatever the fuck you call it.
Yippie kiyay motherfuckers. I always remember it as yippie ki-yi-yay, but that’s just wrong.
Who wants to see some chicks butt?

  • Paranormal Activity 3 Has a Few Good Scares, but Certainly Nothing Wildly Original

I really hate jumping on bandwagons. I feel like an attention whore, when I write about films as they just come out. Let’s face it, you could go to any and every other horror blog for a review of PA 3, and if you’re like me, you have. You’ve searched in a desperate attempt to find someone who has something other than glowing reviews for the film.
I’m beginning to think I’m some kind of cynical asshole. It seems like a lot of movies I dig, everyone else hates, and vice versa. I don’t bring this up to sound unique and trendy. It makes me sad. I wish I loved PA 3, so I could feel like I was on the same page with so many other horror sites, and blogs. Do you think I want to have unique opinions? Of course not! Only a jack ass would wish that on himself!
Anyway, let me assure you that I didn’t hate Paranormal Activity 3. There were some cool shots in it that we didn’t get in the first or second film. The one that comes to mind is the rotating fan shot in the kitchen. It’s set in the 80’s, and the footage has a VHS look to it, so I thought that was cool. The ending was interesting, if not somewhat predictable. It’s certainly one of the better, if not the best horror film in theaters right now.
Which brings me to my issues with the film. If you’ve seen PA and PA 2, you’ve essentially seen PA 3. I’ll admit the first PA fucked with my head, because I wasn’t used to the formula. I love the first Paranormal Activity. It was innovative, and truly creepy. PA 2 was derivative, and essentially the same as the first film, with the same exact formula…but with a baby and a dog. So, I’m glad PA 3 is at least set in a different decade, and has the rotating fan shot. But, it still has the same formula. We wait an hour, and then a door slams, or someone is standing in a doorway. Great, but how is this all that different than the first two films?
The story brings up more questions than it answers, in X-Fileian fashion. I won’t spoil the ending, because I’m not that douche canoe, but it made me wish they had tried to bring about some kind of resolution. Instead, we get to wait for PA 4, and by the time they actually explain what has started these chain of films going, of course it’ll be ridiculous. If you’ve sat through all the Saw films, you’ll know what I mean.
I’m getting kind of annoyed with the, oh wow, here is a book which tells us exactly what we need to know, on this page I just happened to flip to, right now. I get it, you go to these films to see the scares, and it isn’t really a film that is about the story. Still, could we get twenty seconds even, where dude has to look for the page?
I guess the majority of my issue isn’t with the film, but with the fans of the film. I’ve heard nothing but good reviews, and so I checked this flick out. And, while it was certainly passable, it wasn’t amazing.
A film like Human Centipede 2 might not be enjoyable to everyone, but at least it tried something different. The Paranormal Activity’s have never bothered to try anything wildly different, and at the end of the day, that’s what makes them so forgettable, once you get over the jump scares.
